Editor’s Note: “The Coand Word” is shared every Sunday by Derrick Porter in the weekly tabernacle choir on the Temple Square broadcast. This will take place on Sunday, April 27th, 2025. This is the 4,989th week of the broadcast.
For almost 96 years, Music & The Spoken Word has been available at Temple Square in Salt Lake City, Utah. Today I am at the tabernacle. There, each of his three predecessors offers a timeless spiritual message to the world.
When I studied many of their messages, I was surprised that despite the dramatic changes in the world since its first broadcast in July 1929, the “spoken language” message given was something that falls in the next few years and is what it is today. God’s timeless principles remain the same.
On July 13th, 2025, we will celebrate our 5,000th continuous weekly broadcast.
Over the next few months, former presenter of the programme, Richard L. Evans, J. We share some of the timeless principles of God presented by Spencer Kinard, Lloyd D. Newell. Today we share the timeless message given in this hall 64 years ago, entitled “Pace, Purpose, Principles.”
“We often say times have changed. Young people say that, others do. It can be seriously misleading. A lot has changed. Some have changed for the better. How to adapt to the times and have enough flexibility to face the facts.
“The pace has changed – yes, but it’s not an objective or principle. Let’s not be fooled about flexibility in the fundamental principles. We cannot afford to be flexible in issues of integrity. We cannot afford to be flexible in words that are old-fashioned. We distinguish between changes, know where there is flexibility, and know that it is essential to make sure that we have solid modifications to the superstructure.
“The pace has changed, but there are no purpose and principles. The old God-given rules of integrity, morality and responsibility — if that is what we call them, and the “commands” — and even the inner voice called conscience, they are constantly changing. (words, March 19, 1961).
