With a new call for national repentance and spiritual awakening, Korean Christian leaders have launched their weekly “Revival South Korea Mizpa Square Prayer Meeting” starting April 19 in Seoul’s Youid district on April 19, aiming to unite national prayer followers in the weeks leading up to May 31 presidential election.

The Revival Korea Preparatory Committee, led by Rev. Taehee Lee, announced its weekly meeting, which will be held every Saturday at 2pm.

The rally is modelled on the weekly “Korea National Emergency Prayer Conference” held across the country, with political turmoil that led to former President Skewyol Yoon’s fierce each. As with these previous meetings, upcoming events are intended as time as the Korean church repents and holds for its people.

In the Old Testament, Mizpa was where the Israelites gathered with Judge Jeffsa to cry out to God for rescue, under the oppression of the Ammonites (Judges 10:17). It was also a place of national repentance in the days of the Prophet Samuel (1 Samuel 7:6).

The poem on the theme of the new prayer initiative is Samuel 7:3. The organising committee said, “Salvation can only be seen in Jesus Christ. The most powerful act we can do now is to participate in prayer and cry out to God.”

The previous “save South Korea” prayer gathering concluded following the Constitutional Court’s decision to remove former President Yoon from his office.

Despite being organized as a prayer meeting, “Save Korea” has become an increasingly important point of meetings of conservative forces against the bluff each. As Christians are concerned about religious freedom and threats to liberal democracy, they have come to the streets and many others join in their support.

However, some Christian leaders expressed disappointment when prayer meetings were cancelled due to the introduction into the presidential election. The newly launched “Revival Korea Mizpa Square Prayer Meeting” is considered a timely alternative.

Pastor Lee, who guided the truth in his church and led the prayer gathering, said, “We are in the midst of a national crisis. Just as Israelis gather in Mizpa and repent, it is time to pray for this country with only repentance and enthusiasm.

Lee continued. “The purpose of the prayer resurrection at Mizpa Square in Korea is to rely on something other than God to gather the sins of love and repent, and spiritual awakening may come to the Korean church.

Regarding the current political situation, he added: “The heart of our national crisis is whether we can continue the liberal democratic system we have supported up until now. This presidential election will be a massive fork in the ideological battle we face.”

“This battle belongs mostly,” Lee said. “Therefore, we must repent of idolatry, worshiping other gods in place of God. Only then can we seriously seek God’s grace, that is the purpose of this prayer meeting at Mizpa Square.”
