Elder Michael A. Dunn began his speech at a prayer at Brigham Young University on Tuesday, March 4th, with a request that he had never been asked in his previous prayer. He encouraged the audience to be “fools.”

He explained: When he was a young teenager, his grandmother took him to see the musical Man of La Mancha, an adaptation of the book “Don Quixote.” The story made him think about the possibilities of the world and his place within it. He discovers that Quixote’s character is beneficial.

“Quixote is dedicated to his life to defending and defending goodness, looking only at our world and the divinity of its people,” Elder Dan said, urging listeners to stick to the noble and personal quest of God, despite the ridiculous laughter from the world.

Students can advance their desires and resolve for justice to overcome the impossible with Christ, 70 people said in his message of dedication at Provo at the View Marriott Center, Utah.

Don’t waste your time “Lighting with a windmill”

Elder Dan also pointed out that when Quixote was distracted from his course, he recalled the moment when an idealist fought a giant windmill and thought it was a monster. Victor was spending his time attacking unrealistic issues.

Elder Dan warned him to consider how listeners prioritize their time and energy, saying, “I spend too much time and ‘leaning towards a windmill’? ”

He advised listeners not to be distracted by “the fool’s business.”

Reminiscence of what President Gordon B. Hinckley said, Elder Dan said, the noble deeds of courageous followers and the great ideas of courageous followers make the impossible possible.

“Good things aren’t enough,” President Hinckley said in a 1996 BYU prayer. “We must be good for something. We must contribute to the world.”

“Bold, bold and innovative”

Elder Dan relates the lives of two “boring, evil” people. Martha Hughes Cannon and Steve Young.

Hughes received her medication and pharmacy degree in 1857. Later he became a wife and mother, she became a “sightly” doctor, suffrage and a state senator.

Young began his hopeful soccer career as a left-handed quarterback. Although the coach was initially unbelievable, Young became one of BYU’s top quarterbacks, three-time Super Bowl champion and one of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Elder Dan pointed out that he ignored the seemingly impossible and at first glance, noting with their “relentless” resolve and diligence in their profession and faith.

The ministry of Jesus Christ was to “tremble” many of his people, and Elder Dan called his message “bold, bold and innovative” and “ranking the status quo.”

The response of skeptics is the same as today, labeling followers as “fools.” The apostle Paul wrote about the irony of a secular response:

“But the man of nature does not receive the spirit of God, for they are foolish to him” (Corinthians 2:14).

Elder Dan said:

Despite the persecution

Elder Dan asked the audience to reflect on two examples that reminded them of never succumbing to the Nathires. The ultimate restoration of the great committees and gospel given to the apostles.

British theologian John RW Stott wrote that Christ conveyed his message to his apostles to every nation and called it ridiculous.

“There is no 11 men’s small band, no money, no machines, no human fame. They are told to take away the world. The gap between tasks and available resources is a slip-dic” (The Message of Action, 1990).

However, despite the face of persecution, they managed to spread the gospel and establish churches in many parts of the world.

Elder Dan pointed out that the gospel restoration came from his pursuit of true redemption and revelation that “the farm boy who seeks truth… had never known before him what was “impossible.”

Despite facing skepticism and ridiculousness due to his radical teachings, Joseph Smith received God’s revelation and was not shaken by his “impossible dreams.”

It is possible in Christ

Comparing the wisdom of the world, focusing on his own abilities, with the wisdom of God to what he can do, Elder Dan explained, “A “fool for Christ” understands more about what he can do.”

Elder Dan testified that Jesus Christ defeated the invincible, carried out the unbearable, corrected unwilling mistakes, and was willing to give his life because he “martled for the cause of heaven.”

Elder Dan concluded by encouraging listeners to rely on God, accept their vision and “wash your time with the windmill.”

“Focus on the issues within your control. And let go of the sparkling but actually counterfeits. Elder Dan said, “Convince you, “Those who believe in God, have hopes of assurance for a better world” (Ether 12:4). ”
