Prayer to honor what our national flag represents
By Lynette Kittle

Bible Reading:
“Everyone who lives in the world and on earth will see it as soon as the flag is raised on the mountain, and as soon as the trumpet is blown away, you will hear it.”

Read or listen to the following:

Every June 14th, our country commemorates flag day. This was officially made by President Woodrow Wilson in 1916, the day the Continental Congress adopted the original American flag in 1777. It is also the birthday of Presidents 45 and 47th Donald J. Trump.

Prayer and President’s author, historian and speaker William J. Federer points out that President Wilson requested that the 14th day of June be observed as flag day in a special patriotic exercise.

The American flag is the most recognised flag on the planet as a symbol of freedom for Americans and people all over the world. Over the decades, millions of citizens have pledged their loyalty to our flag. This is the first thing that many times in the morning as children in our country’s classrooms.

Dr. Jerry Newcomb, executive director of the Providence Forum, has been remembered and cited by countless Americans over the years.

The American flag stirs the heart
The American flag is known to stir the hearts of patriotic citizens. It is the history of America, where we have seen our nation through many conflicts, and for all, we have stood for life, freedom, justice and freedom, and seen our nation through freedom.

“Of course, it’s just a symbol,” Newcombe said. “But it’s a powerful thing. For me, it represents the story of America. Newcombe believes we should honor the flag because we respect God and our nation. “A lot of blood was shed to protect that flag,” he explains. “And that represents the freedom we enjoy.”

The American flag has 13 red and white stripes, each of which represents the original 13 colonies that began in our country, and 50 white stars are set on a blue background representing the current 50 states. Dr. Peter Lilback, founder of the Providence Forum, notes the importance of each colour displayed on the American flag, with red standing for its toughness and courage. White for purity and innocence, blue for patience, justice, vigilance. Most Americans believe that Betsy Ross designed and sewed the first American flag, but historians have acknowledged the design to Francis Hopkinson, the original signator of the Declaration of Independence.

The importance of flags
The United States is not unique in having a national flag, as it appears that every country in the world has a national flag, but why? Why is it so important for a country to have a flag? The Old Testament of the Bible refers to the flag throughout the text, as found in Isaiah 30:17.

Initially, flags were primarily used in wars, announcing battles and identifying troops, friends or enemies. Today, they still carry some symbolism of power and leadership, leading military processes and presenting high-ranking officials. Flags are also used for signals, decoration and display, as well as to bring people together for reasons. Similarly, flags are used to convey the death of national leaders and to mourn national tragedy and disasters. It is also used to declare ownership and jurisdiction over lands in your hometown or abroad.

Let’s pray:

Dear Father,
We thank you what our American flag represents: One nation under God was founded and established on the basis of respectful principles. We praise you for the freedom we represent to us that come from you through Jesus Christ. We strengthen our nation and our citizens and faithfully hold what our flag represents, as written in the declaration of the preamble of independence. Lord, help us. Celebrate what the American flag represents to our nation and to the nations around the world.
In the name of Jesus, Amen.
