Prayer to be a humble servant
By Christine Perry

Bible Reading:
“To be God did not see equality with God as accustoming to his own interests. Rather, he did nothing by taking the nature of a servant made of human caricatures. – Philippians 2:6-8 NIV

Listen or read:

The older you get, the more people you know, the more opportunities you have to oppose and make mistakes. In light of this, there are also more opportunities to show humility and see others’ needs as superior to you. Humility is the heart set in Christ by submitting to God’s will. When we submit to the Lord and bow, he comes to our rescue. James 4:6-10 says:

“But he gives us more grace, that’s why the Bible says, and then he runs away from you.

As humans, we long for control. I want to see how our actions can lead to positive outcomes. However, upon submission, you abandon control, results, and choice. it’s difficult. But God can see the whole picture. He knows what we need when we need it and why we need it. It is our job to submit to whatever he wants to do in our lives. In many cases, God teaches us humility through trial. He places us sovereignly where we need it. David said in Psalm 119:71, “It was good that I would suffer so that I could learn your decree.” Look at Job in Chapter 42, verses 1-6.

“Then Job answered Primarily:
I know you can do everything.
You cannot interfere with your purpose.
“Who is the one who obscure my plans without knowledge?” I asked.
Certainly, I talked about things I didn’t understand, something that was too great for me to know.
“You said,” listen now, and I will speak.
I’ll ask you a question,
And you will answer me. ”
My ears were hearing about you
But now my eyes have looked at you.
Therefore, I lightly splash myself
I repent of dust and ashes. ”

David and Job are human and we are human, so we are anticipated to be tested. But what if Jesus, who was perfect, also said that he learned obedience through what he suffered (Hebrews 5:8)? Jesus’ attitude was the servant’s attitude. He happily placed himself under his father’s will. When the Father said he would wait, Jesus waited. When his father told him to act, he acted. When he needed to pray, he prayed all night. Whatever his father wanted him to do, he did it. Jesus is always our ultimate example. We are by no means perfect and we don’t always get things right, but we have mentors and friends who can learn. Psalm 25:9 says, “He guides humble things in righteousness, and teaches them how to do his best.”

Let’s pray:

Dear Lord,
You are exactly that – Lord. You are a potter and we are clay. Father, we ask that you help us have a heart to follow you. We are very inadequate. We are troubled by sin and saturated. Lord, sorry, and we need you. We ask that you decrease and increase. We put aside our desires, agendas, schedules, and plans. We ask you to put what you want there in our hands and remove what you don’t want. Lord, help us to trust you. you’re good. You have our best in mind and you love us more than anyone else. We need you. Thank you for listening. we love you. Help us love and serve you better. We are in relationship with us the way you like.
In the name of Jesus, Amen.
