Prayer for the certainty that God’s care will change everything
By Keri Eichberger
Bible Reading:
“Even in your old age and gray hair, I am him, I support you. I have made you. I will take you, I will keep you, I will save you.” – Isaiah 46:4
Listen or read:
Yesterday morning I received a heavy text message saying that a friend of my dear family had passed away. And the sudden news solidified some of the emotions that were thrust into my heart. The future is very uncertain. I am increasingly perceived the facts of this life in the midst of my current environment. I don’t think there’s any new blood clots in my feet, how to cover the first year of the university’s oldest university in the fall, and the instability of my husband’s job and company this year. There’s a path to resolution that feels completely cloudy and all the situations that make me feel very sick from my control. And the truth is that overloading of uncertainty can worry and consume me with any ifs. What happens if things don’t go well? What happens if things get worse? What happens if there is even more bad news suddenly?
I think it’s safe to assume you can identify a long list of unknowns staring at you during the day. You may also have health concerns or have a best friend or family with a line of life. Or, like most of us, you have some kind of financial performance in the matter. It is possible that you have been overcome with concerns about the well-being of one or more of your child. It’s always something. Or, you should always say it’s all kinds of things. I feel that. If I lifted up everything that hits the nerve of uncertainty, I could sit and pray for hours. And honestly, this is everything I know when I feel like I live in the range of waiting for something that matters to me to be resolved.
Lifting my heart to God is all I do because I know that God is careful. And this is the truth we want both to hold on to today. A promise from God Himself that I was comforted with confidence when I came across his words in Isaiah 46:4. I made you and I carry you. I will keep you and save you.
The truth is that God has made us and has always been caring for us and continues to carry on. And our knowledge and trust in God’s care will change everything. Because if God is certain without a shadow of doubt that he will take care of us, it means that he will take care of everything we feel uncertain right now. Through difficulties, he empowers us, through worry, he brings peace to us, and in the darkness he makes the light shine. He has supported you and his children each through the valley and the thick misty days of the past. We can be sure he will pass through us as his children are sure of his constant love and care. And in the face of the uncertainty you are seeing, the certainty of his care changes everything to sense everything around you. Because in his beloved sovereign care, you can rest and smile. You can praise him for knowing that his infinite blessings and goodness is certainly there, although you don’t know that.
Let’s pray:
The omnipresent God, you are a God who cares for me constantly. In a world that is so uncertain and seems to be surrounded by countless unknowns, I will change everything to know that your loving care is constantly covering me and all of your people. I accept that I will fall into the daily worries of my world, but please help me regain your trust in your sovereignty. Lord, you have made me, you have taken me all day in my life, and I rest in the truth that you will continue to support me and save me forever. I praise you for the peace and joy that you forgive me when I open my eyes and heart to these powerful truths. In the name of your son’s protection, I pray, amen.
