Prayers to know your limits do not limit God’s plans
By Keri Eichberger
Bible Reading:
“Who can stop him because the Almighty Lord is his purpose? His hand will reach out, and who can turn it back?” – Isaiah 14:27
Listen or read:
I cannot remember the exact words spoken, but the message my heart heard was: “Lord, let Mom know that nothing will stop you from using her in your kingdom.” The eyelids closed tightly and plunged down my cheeks with tears of peace and adoration. My 18-year-old son stood above me, putting his hand on my shoulder, yelling out the deepest prayers I poured on me. It was the morning of my surgery. A relatively large abdominal procedure that had hopes of relieving debilitating back pain. My son and I share the passions and common goals of a great kingdom. It was clear that he had “get” me that morning. He knew that my heart longed for the pursuit of purpose and that the Lord had made plans that lay in my heart.
I also think you may have a desire for the soul and some of the goals you dream of. Maybe they’re as easy as spending extra time with a particular family, giving or serving the ability to pull your mind, or meeting physical, mental, or mental health milestones. Or maybe there are some rather large callings you know. We all have something that we hope to pass by. But all of this can be a disappointing struggle here. When we feel in some way limited, whether it is physical ability in my case, or a matter of time, resources, or mental ability, we often feel our minds have been suppressed to bring about the desires that are headed towards us.
If you’ve ever been disappointed by any limitation and the feeling that your purpose might be compromised, let me return the truth that my son has done to me in the moment he is asking me to. There is nothing to stop God from using you in His kingdom. Let me say this too: Your limits do not limit God’s plan for you. And here’s the reason. We serve the infinite God. And there’s nothing anyone can do to stop his plan from winning. He will find a way, he will make a way, and God has a good plan for you. Each of us who loves and watches him.
I know that God is full of energy and constantly caring for me. But I think we all need reminders over and over again when life gets in the way. Just as God uses me no matter what, and that temporary restriction should not limit his plans, I need to step into my surgery, so the same is true for you. Whatever appears to be in the way of today, you will create a future that reveals the abundance of His infinite glory, believing that God is working hard behind the scenes to redeem your story.
Let’s pray:
Lord God, you are an almighty and infinite God. You plan so many good purposes for me and all your children. And I am very grateful. You have placed my calling in my heart in my life, my dreams, my desires, and gave me the willingness to pursue them. And these are gifts I don’t take for granted. Too often I feel I am at the limits of life. Remember, in these moments of struggle, my limits do not interfere or limit your perfect plan. Give me the confidence that my purpose will win, as you have authority over everything, including all the set folds, barriers, obstacles that meet my path. There is nothing that prevents you from using me in your kingdom. Lord, I praise you for embracing your sovereign hand and every detail of my life with your perfect plan. In the name of your son, I pray, amen.
