Prayer for repentance
By Chelsey Dematteis
Bible Reading:
“He, who lives in the highest-priced shelter, remains in the shadow of the Almighty. I say mostly, “My shelter and my fortress, my God, I trust.” ” – Poem sal91:1-2
Read or listen to the following:
As a new believer, I was still in the early stages of understanding what it means to bring everything to the Lord. I mean it all. God used the poem sal written by David as an example for me to live as a guide to share with those around me.
When I came to love God’s Word, I realized that I was writing poems sal over and over again. Poems 91 and 119 became songs for me. They stabilized my heart, called for me to repent, and reminded me of how much my heavenly Father loved me.
Psal sal 91:16 says that those who live in the most expensive shelter will remain in the shadow of the Almighty.
I say to the Lord, “My shelter and fortress, my God I trust.” He will save you from Fowler and the trap of a deadly plague. He will cover you with his pinion and under his wings you will find a shelter. His loyalty is his shield and buckler. Don’t be afraid of night horrors, flying arrows during the day, plagues distilling in the dark, or destruction of daytime waste.
This part of the Bible teaches us that our people who live in the soft and loving care of our Savior are always safe. The trials and tribulations of this world occur, but we can rest and trust God is bringing all things together. He says that he is a shield for us and we don’t need to fear the darts that the enemies of this world film our paths.
Poem sal119 has been another anchor to my spirit for many years. It calls my heart to repentance and then to praise me. It reminds us how big God is and what a gift to be His daughter.
“The blessed are those who walk in the law of the Lord. Those who maintain their testimony, seek him with all their heart, and who are not wrong, but who walk in his way are blessed. I will not abandon your laws completely!” – Psalm sal 119:1-8
When we walk with Jesus, do we see what gift these poems sals are in our hearts? They tell us who God is, what he wants in our lives, and the blessings we receive as we walk with him. I am extremely grateful for the leadership and guidance of women who studied these Bibles many years ago.
As you walk the path of the Lord, be immobilized in pursuing His words. It gives you a deeper understanding of your father’s heart and gives you a glimpse into everything you want in your life.
Let’s pray:
Father, thank you for the gift of your words. Please take the time to have understanding and wisdom to study the Bible to better understand who you are and what you called me. It will lead my heart to a place of repentance and praise. Share your truth in me with those around me and tell me the words to speak to them about the glorious grace they can receive by walking with you. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
