Prayer to lock my eyes to Jesus
By Keri Eichberger

Bible Reading:
“When Jesus spoke to the people again, he said, “I am the light of the world; and whoever follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.” – John 8:12

Listen or read:

It was as if God himself had sent a speaker at this particular conference to personally prepare my heart for what was ahead. And this time, like I had repeated the previous year, I don’t think it’s necessarily going to make me worse. But instead, the message seemed to be a provision of protection against what I do that I have done many times in the past. When life finds smooth stretches of the road, keep my gaze a little away from Jesus. In past challenging years, I was leaning harder than ever before, but suddenly, for a few days, the opportunity for promises brought bright hope to my path. And when the difficulties rose a little, I tended to stop to depend on God, as I leaned forward and listened, verbally reminded me of the predisposition of the common human creatures that depend on God. I have experienced a precious intimacy that began while walking closely with someone through suffering – that this someone is Jesus – and I definitely didn’t want to undermine that precious connection and communion.

Where are you on the scale of the hard and smooth things in your life? Are you in a difficult thickness, or most of the time, does it seem like the sunlight is almost shining in your days? Or maybe it’s constantly changing. This is also a fair lifestyle assessment in most cases, from my perspective. And how about your connection with Jesus? Are your eyes locked hard by him? Will your gaze remain in a state of praise for the good he unfolds? Or did you rely on expanded notifications about how things in the world have helped or hurt you? Leaning more on people and joy than Jesus, we see people and joy, the immovable source of everything.

This is what I have learned through the highs and lows of life. It was never God’s intention to take his eyes off Jesus. His intention is intimacy. Always with him. Because in him, by himself, we find a fullness and a light life. The moment we give up and slid our vision from the true source of all the light in our lives is the moment when light and bloating begin to fade. And I want you to stay in that light and stand strong like me. Because it’s beautiful. And the more we soak it, the brighter it will shine, and it will be bolder and more beautiful.

As for the inevitable suffering we know, life filled with struggle and apparent sets, can train and teach Christ’s followers to lean violently towards him. Always look to him. It’s a practice for when a simple sweep meets our path. And in these sweet moments, good is greeted with greater joy and fulfillment for him and his light. Because we are focused and fixed on him regardless of the case or condition, and we can see how he exists in each blessing or challenging situation. Because our eyes are fixed to Jesus. And what is shining is that when life is once again shadowed by the darkness, and until we enter the gates of heaven, our automatic responses still look to him. He reduces all wounds, heartaches, and all the stab wounds of weight. He will enhance our hope, our joy, and all our joy.

Let’s pray:

Father of God, you are the light of my life. And within you there is the vibrant life fulfillment that only you can offer. I long for this bloating. I want to hold onto you tightly. But sometimes, when life runs more smoothly or consumes me with distractions, I’m trying to lower the worldly way. And that’s when the light starts to go out. Lord, keep me focused on you and your way, just as I constantly recognize your presence. I hope my praise and gaze remains stable and solid. No matter the seasonal circumstances, I’m always full of you. Good, hard, and every moment of everyday life. Always, I want to be filled with your sparkle. I want to look at you. I always admire him for being by my side and always loveing me more than I know.
Your son’s perfect name, Amen.
