Javier Bolaños, Latin America editor of Christian Daily International and director of the Spanish-language newsroom Diario Cristiano, has been appointed to the board of directors of COICOM International, the leading network of Christian communicators across Hispanic America.
COICOM has welcomed Bolaños, a Costa Rican journalist with more than 20 years of experience in Christian and mainstream media, to the board of directors of the organization, which was founded 33 years ago and continues to expand throughout the Americas.
“We are pleased with this recognition and the confidence it reflects in Javier,” said Gordon Showell Rogers, International Director of Christian Dairy International. “As editor of Diario Cristiano, Javier brought CDI’s trusted international Christian reporting to audiences we could never reach in English alone. He built the Spanish version from the ground up and at the same time significantly strengthened the English version. We pray that Javier’s addition to the COICOM executive will add similar blessings and growth to Christian media across the Americas.”
COICOM Executive President Arnold Enns also welcomed Bolaños’ appointment, citing their long-standing professional relationship and confidence in his leadership.
“We are very pleased and honored to have Javier Bolaños join our COICOM Board of Directors,” Enns said in comments to Christian Daily International. “I have known Javier for nearly 20 years and admire his professionalism, service, and dedication to God’s work in Latin America. I am confident that his contributions to the Board will be of great value to COICOM’s future.”
Bolaños said in a statement after the announcement that his appointment to the board is a personal and professional milestone.
“I am honored and honored to join the Board of Directors of COICOM, an organization that I have admired and loved dearly for many years, ever since I was studying journalism in college,” he said. “COICOM plays a critical role in training, mobilizing, supporting, and providing resources for Hispanic American Christian communicators. It is also a powerful force for change in our region through the most powerful message that the media can spread: the Gospel message.”
COICOM said Bolaños’ appointment reflects his long-standing contributions to Christian journalism and media leadership in Latin America. He has more than 20 years of experience in radio, television and print journalism and is known for his commitment to journalistic excellence and deep local knowledge.
Earlier in his career, Bolaños served as general producer of CBN News’ Spanish-language news program Mundo Cristiano for 10 years, and later served as director of Evangelico Digital. He has also worked as the Latin America regional producer for Global News Alliance.
In addition to his roles as editorial lead for the Christian Daily International and Christian Post Spanish editions, Bolaños has reported internationally on presidential elections, natural disasters, and major global sporting events such as the Olympics and the FIFA World Cup tournament. He has also spoken at communications and media events such as COICOM, Expolit, and AGC Summit.
COICOM’s Board of Directors includes Mynor Vargas, Chairman; Alex Mejia, Treasurer; Napoleon Aldaya, secretary. The members of the Board of Directors are Mr. Ernesto Pinto, Mr. Feila Castro, Mr. Juan Carlos Hasbun, Mr. Johannes Bleeker, Mr. Jorge Elias Sánchez and Ms. Ana Belinda Colindres. Mr. Enns serves as Executive President.
COICOM brings together Christian communicators, media professionals, and organizations from the Latin American and Hispanic world to focus on training, collaboration, and strengthening Christian witness through the media.
