The 77-year-old Florida woman who had cardiac arrest while driving to the appointment of a doctor called, contacted the emergency services and prayed to the elderly woman until help arrived.
As WJXT reported Monday, Joyce Long was driving on Normandy Boulevard last week when she suffered cardiac arrest last week. Long’s car began to fall into traffic when he suffered from chest pain, and the other drivers horned at the older woman in frustration.
One driver on the scene, Retonia Watts, suspected that something was wrong. Joyce Long’s daughter, Jennifer Long, believes that her mother would have passed away if it weren’t due to Watts’ intervention.

“She has chest pain and is in the process of cardiac arrest so she can barely drive,” Jennifer told WJXT. “Mrs. Watts walked past, blew through the corner and told her something to stop.”
According to Watts, she wasn’t sure what she could do to help other women, but her faith and instinct took over.
The surprised rescuer got out of her car and asked the elderly woman if she was okay, and she replied “No” before her death.
After calling 911, Watts stayed with the woman and prayed over her.
“I placed my hand on her and said, ‘Cut, hold on, God has got you,'” she told the outlet. “The rescue came soon. Being there at that particular time was destined for me.”
When paramedics arrived, as reported by WJXT, they had to impact their hearts twice over the years and perform CPR three times.
Jennifer Long is especially grateful to Watts for saving her mom as she recently lost her son due to medical complications.
“It would have been impossible to bear too much to lose two families in six months,” the older woman’s daughter told WJXT.
The pain of losing a loved one is something Watts understands, and recently lost his stepbrother. Coincidentally, the female stepbrother died of illness while he was in the car.
What happened to her sister’s husband, the Christian woman felt that she was called to intervene when she realized something was wrong for a long time.
“My sister had just lost her husband and he actually passed his car. And honestly, I got a glimpse of it… I saw her and I felt like I had to help,” Watts said.
Joyce Long is still recovering from cardiac arrest. The 77-year-old also expressed her gratitude for the timely rescue and recorded a message to the woman who saved her life.
“Hello, Mrs. Watts. Thank you for helping me when I need it,” Long said on the recording. “I don’t know what happened to me. I’m incapacitated, but you were a huge help to me.”
“You asked me a few times if I was okay and I told you no,” she continued. “You helped me and contacted my family. I just wanted to say thank you. You were a blessing to me.”
For Watts, the expression of gratitude was sufficient and she thanked the Lord for allowing her to be in the right place at the right time to save the lives of other women.
“You’re welcome,” Watts said in response to a recorded message from a woman she helped. “I just thank God. No one owe anything to me.”
