Bishop Marian Edgar Budde of the Episcopal Diocese in Washington has long been the progressive left voice, but her latest exploits reveal how far she is from biblical truth.
The day after his inauguration in a sermon that was more political than spiritual, Bud, who notoriously became President Donald Trump, continues to defend Left causes more than Christian doctrines. Now she’s been attracting the attention of her supposed supporters, claiming she received more than 20,000 encouragement following her latest attack on Trump and her conservative values.
Budde recently thanked her supporters on Facebook and posted a video gushing about letters, phone calls and even gifts she received. “I can’t tell you how much it means to me to receive letters of gratitude, support, encouragement, phone calls, notes, gifts and expressions,” she said. She continued to portray herself as a brave figure who urged her followers to “stand together” and “be brave” and led the noble movement.

This self-collection scene raises serious questions. Who are these supporters? And why does she feel the need to emphasize the amount of response, as if popularity is equivalent to justice?
Having seen a dramatic decline in membership in recent years, the Anglican Church has embraced progressive activities as increasingly relevant. The fanfare writing Budde’s letters appears to be a calculated move to further cement her as a beloved leftist religious institution. Rather than sticking to biblical principles, she positions herself as an open border, transgender ideology, and a crusader of government welfare programs.
One of the most obvious contradictions in her mission was the Bishop’s Immigration Ministry, which in 2024 alone earned $53 million in federal funds and resettled 3,600 individuals. Badde preaches compassion and mercy, but the resettlement sector of refugees in her church is designed to directly benefit from government money and maximize economic benefits. Programs such as “Preferred Communities” and “Matching Grants” make EMM efforts a lucrative effort, but the Episcopal Church cuts repayments on refugee travel loans. This raises great concern about conflicts of interest, but Badde is silent about these inconvenient truths.
President Trump wasted no time exposing Budd’s overlap. After she called on him to “have mercy” to illegal immigrants and refugees, Trump demanded an apology and correctly called her out as “a radical left hardline Trump hatred.” He further emphasized that he failed to address the true consequences of unidentified immigrants, including violent crimes committed by illegal immigrants.

Bud’s Christian brand is nothing more than a political movement covered in religious language. The emphasis on the overwhelming support she received is said to help her deflect only from the reality that she leads the Anglican Church further away from the truth of the Bible. Christianity is not a popularity contest, nor is it a tool for political gain.
America does not need faith leaders who serve as mouthpieces of progressive politics. No matter the political outcome, we need God’s men and women who boldly represent biblical truths. Badde made her choice, and it is not useful to God or his people.
