The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has announced adjustments to its Sunday class meeting schedule.
“We are confident that members will be blessed by these changes,” the First Presidency said in a letter released Monday, March 30, 2026.
This will be the first time Sunday will look different since it was adjusted to a two-hour time slot in 2019. Now, instead of alternating classes on Sundays, members will meet for all meetings during the second period.
The new schedule will take effect the first week of September.
The new schedule includes one hour of sacrament meeting each Sunday, 25 minutes of adult and youth Sunday school, and 25 minutes of Relief Society, elders quorum, Young Women, and Aaronic Priesthood quorum meetings. There will be a 5 minute transition period between each block.
The Primary meets for 55 minutes during the second period.
The announcement was made in a First Presidency letter dated March 30 and a news release on ChurchofJesusChrist.org.
The letter from the First Presidency explains that Sunday School and Primary classes will continue to study the scriptures using “Come, Follow Me—For the Home and the Church.” The elders quorum and Relief Society will continue to study the messages from the latest general conference. Youth will be using an expanded version of For the Strength of Youth: A Guide to Choosing, with more information to come.
Quorums and classes will no longer discuss specific topics together before lessons, and each meeting during this second hour will begin and end with a prayer, said the letter, signed by Church President Dallin H. Oaks and his counselors, President Henry B. Eyring and President D. Todd Christofferson.

What these adjustments mean
The worship schedule has been adjusted many times since the restoration began.
A page on ChurchofJesusChrist.org titled “Changes to the Sunday Class Meeting Schedule” outlines the new Sunday Class Meeting schedule as follows:
Focus more on the teachings of Jesus Christ. Strengthen gospel learning at home. Increase fellowship, belonging, and community in the church.
In a church news release, church lay officers and leaders spoke at length about what this means for Latter-day Saints.
Sunday School General President Paul V. Johnson:
“Having all classes meet weekly helps deepen gospel learning by more closely linking gospel learning with individual and family learning. It also enhances the spiritual support available to members. Although the schedules may look different, the time we spend learning together is the same.”
Camille N. Johnson, Relief Society general president:
“As we come together each week to counsel, learn, and support one another, we gain more strength. As we gather together in the name of the Lord, the Spirit teaches us, our testimonies are strengthened, and we build each other up as disciples. This weekly time of connection helps us grow closer to the Savior and to each other. We rejoice in walking the covenant path together.”

Timothy L. Ferns, Young Men general president:
“The living prophets have given us the FSY Guide, which is simple but powerful. This guide helps young men and young women focus on Christ, know His doctrine, and listen to the Spirit. This guide helps young people walk with confidence, rely on the Lord’s strength, and move forward with hope in a difficult world. I think it will be useful as part of daily scripture study.”
Strengthen your faith and make a deep and lasting conversion
In October 2018 general conference, then-President Russell M. Nelson announced that the length of the Church’s Sunday meetings would be changed from three hours to two hours, and that Sunday School and classes for elders quorums, Relief Society, Young Women, and Aaronic Priesthood quorums would be held on a rotating weekly basis. This change occurred in January 2019.
“The long-standing purpose of the Church is to help all members strengthen their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and His Atonement, make and keep covenants with God, and strengthen and seal families,” President Nelson said at the time. “In this complex world today, this is not easy. The enemy is increasing his attacks on faith and family exponentially. Spiritual survival requires counterstrategies and proactive planning.”
Elder Quentin L. Cook of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said in October 2018 general conference: “The most important goal and ultimate blessing of deep and lasting conversion is worthy participation in the covenants and the ordinances of the Covenant Path.”
The General Handbook explains that following the gospel of Jesus Christ includes learning and teaching the gospel of Jesus Christ at home and in church (Section 1.4.1).
Section 1.5 outlines the purpose of the Church of Jesus Christ to enable all people to enjoy the blessings of eternal life through sacred ordinances and covenants.
To help accomplish this divine purpose, Jesus Christ, through the Church and its leaders, has provided:
Priesthood authority and keys. direction of prophecy. Bible. Support for gospel learning and teaching. Opportunities for service and leadership. community of saints.
